Miami Yacht Departure Areas

Miami yachts leave from four main departure areas: Miami Beach Marina at South Beach, Haulover and Bill Bird Marina in the north by Bal Harbour and Sunny Isles, Coconut Grove on the bay, and the Miami River near Downtown and Brickell. Pick the area closest to where you are staying, then the boat; the route follows from the marina.

The four departure areas

  • South Beach, Miami Beach Marina: the biggest departure point, at the foot of Alton Road by South of Fifth. Island loops past Star Island and Fisher Island, the skyline and the bay sandbars are minutes away.
  • North, Haulover and Bill Bird Marina: on Collins Avenue between Bal Harbour and Sunny Isles, beside Haulover Inlet. The Haulover sandbar and the Intracoastal start at the dock; it serves North Beach, Surfside, Bal Harbour, Sunny Isles, Aventura and North Miami.
  • Coconut Grove: Dinner Key, Bayshore Landing and Grove Harbour on the south bay, closest for Coral Gables, the Grove and South Miami, and the short way to Key Biscayne and Stiltsville.
  • Miami River and Downtown: the river marinas near Little Havana and Allapattah, and the bayside docks by Downtown and the Venetian Causeway, closest for Brickell, Downtown and Riverside.

Every boat on every yacht rental in Miami shows the marina it leaves from, and the Departs from filter narrows the list to one area.

Choosing the area

Start from where the group is staying and what the day is for. A South Beach hotel and a sandbar party point to Miami Beach Marina; a Sunny Isles condo and a family swim day point to Haulover; a dinner cruise from Brickell points to the river or Downtown; a calm day around Key Biscayne points to Coconut Grove or the causeway. Two boats in the same city can start forty minutes apart by car, so the marina matters as much as the boat. The places each area reaches are on Miami yacht destinations.

Getting to the dock

After booking you get the marina address, the dock and slip, parking or drop-off notes and the captain’s contact, in one message you can forward to every guest. Allow for causeway and Collins Avenue traffic at weekends and in season, and for parking at the bigger marinas. For a group, a black car from the hotel to the marina and back keeps everyone together; see black car transportation.

Questions

Departure questions

Where do Miami yacht charters leave from?
Mostly from Miami Beach Marina at South Beach, Haulover and Bill Bird Marina in the north, the Coconut Grove marinas and the Miami River and Downtown docks.
Can the yacht pick us up at our hotel?
Only where a pickup is confirmed for that boat. Most charters board at their own marina; a black car can bring the group there.
Which area is best for a sandbar day?
Haulover for the Haulover sandbar, Miami Beach Marina for the bay sandbars, Coconut Grove or the causeway for Key Biscayne.
Does the marina change the price?
Each card shows the price for that boat from its own marina; what changes is the travel time to the dock and the route.
When do we get the exact dock?
In the confirmation after booking: the marina address, the dock and the captain’s contact.
How much does a yacht rental cost from each area?
The same fleet prices apply at every dock: from about $850 for three hours and $1,150 for four on a boat under 40 ft, about $1,050 and $1,400 on 40 to 54 ft, captain, crew and fuel included. What changes by area is the run to the sandbar, so a dock close to your first stop buys more time at it.

13 things you can add
North Miami Yacht RentalsNorth Miami is mostly inland, so a North Miami yacht rental boards at the closest coastal marinas: Haulover on Collins Avenue, and the Intracoastal docks of North Miami Beach. Locals from Biscayne Park, Keystone Point and Sans Souci get a short drive and the Haulover sandbar and Intracoastal on the doorstep, up to 13 guests with captain and crew.Ask us
Sunny Isles Yacht RentalsA Sunny Isles yacht rental boards a few minutes from the oceanfront towers, at Haulover just south or on the Intracoastal, and spends the day on calm water: the Haulover sandbar, the Intracoastal past the Sunny Isles and Bal Harbour skyline, and a sunset cruise. It suits condo residents, snowbirds and resort guests, up to 13 guests with captain and crew.Ask us
Aventura Yacht RentalsAn Aventura yacht rental is planned around the Intracoastal and the north bay, boarding at the marinas closest to Aventura, Haulover and the North Miami Beach docks, rather than an hour away in South Beach traffic.
