Why the bay is the tour

Barrier islands block the ocean swell, so the bay stays flat when the Atlantic is lumpy: the right water for families, first-timers and anyone prone to seasickness. Nearly every route on Miami boat tours runs inside it, and the locals’ name for the loop is simply the bay ride.

What to see

The skyline and the bridges

Downtown, Brickell and the lit causeways: the postcard run, best at dusk.

Monument Island

The bay’s anchor-and-swim spot behind the Venetian Islands, ten to fifteen minutes from the Miami Beach docks.

Stiltsville

Seven wooden houses standing in open water at the bay’s south end, inside Biscayne National Park: a half-day trip with a story the captain tells better than we can write it.

The sandbars

Waist-deep water where boats raft up: Nixon sandbar off Key Biscayne in the south bay, and the Haulover sandbar in the north.

Boating in Biscayne Bay

The bay carries manatee zones, no-wake zones and a national park at its south end. On a crewed charter the captain handles all of it, which is the practical answer to the “boating in Biscayne Bay rules” question: you swim, he navigates.

Biscayne Bay boat rental

Every yacht on Miami yacht rentals tours the bay. Pick the boat, the hours and the stops; the cards above show live prices, and the clear water for a mask and snorkel is on snorkeling in Miami.

Questions

Biscayne Bay tour questions

How much is a Biscayne Bay boat tour?
From about $825 for two hours, private, captain, crew and fuel included.
How long to see the whole bay?
Three to four hours covers the skyline, Monument Island and a sandbar; Stiltsville makes it a day.
Is the water rough?
Rarely. The bay is protected, and your captain reads the day and routes around the wind.
Can we swim or snorkel?
Yes. Sandbar stops are standard, and the clear snorkel water sits off Key Biscayne.
Can you see Stiltsville up close?
The boat idles past within the park’s rules; landing on the houses is not allowed.
