Miami Ash Scattering Yacht Charters
An ash scattering charter in Miami is a private sea memorial: a calm two to three hour cruise for family and friends, a ceremony with readings, music or petals, and the scattering of the ashes offshore in the Atlantic, at least three nautical miles from land as federal rules require. The captain moves gently, pauses the engines and shares the coordinates.
How a sea memorial works
Share the date range, the time of day, the number of guests and any mobility needs, and the team suggests a stable boat with shade and easy boarding. Choose the shape of the day: a quiet Biscayne Bay cruise with the skyline and the islands for the ceremony, then the run offshore for the scattering, or straight out to open water. Many families choose sunrise for a beginning or sunset for a farewell. The captain sets a calm pace, allowing time for pauses and quiet, and shares the approximate coordinates of the scattering place for your records. Other private charters are on Miami yacht charters.
The rules for scattering at sea
Under the federal rule for burial at sea, cremated remains are scattered at least three nautical miles from land, and the Environmental Protection Agency is notified within 30 days; the team explains the notice and any papers needed from the cremation provider. Only items that are safe for the ocean go into the water, loose petals or a biodegradable wreath rather than plastic or metal.
Ceremony and small details
- Music: a few favourite songs, hymns or quiet instrumental tracks.
- Words: memories, poems, prayers or letters before or after the scattering.
- Flowers: loose petals or an ocean-safe wreath to go with the ashes.
- Keepsakes: a framed photo, a small memento or a book for guests to sign.
- Silence: the engines off and the boat drifting while you take a moment together.
Religious and non-religious services are both welcome, and the charter is private, with no other guests aboard. The team’s standards on the water are on yacht safety protocols.
Time, price and booking
Most memorials take two to three hours, depending on the route and the distance offshore. The quote puts the yacht, captain, fuel and standard marina fees in one number, and the payment can be split between family members. You do not need to have everything decided: send what you know through contact Feeling Yachty, and the team helps shape the rest.
