Miami Water Sports & Yacht Toys
Miami water sports on a yacht day are of two kinds: toys that ride on the boat, paddleboards, kayaks, a floating mat and snorkel gear, used where the captain anchors; and activities with their own operator, jet skis, jet cars, scuba, wakeboarding and water skiing, booked alongside the charter so the whole day is one booking.
On the yacht, or alongside it
Toys on the boat. A paddleboard, a kayak, a floating water mat or snorkel masks travel aboard and come out where the captain anchors, usually a sandbar or a calm cove. What each yacht carries is on its listing; the water mat comes with every charter, and anything extra is confirmed with the boat.
Activities with an operator. A jet ski, a jet car, a dive, a wakeboarding or ski session is run by a licensed operator with its own craft, crew and safety briefing. It meets the yacht on the water or at the dock for the hours you choose, and the team books it with the charter so the timings line up. Start with the boat on every yacht rental in Miami.
Choosing by group
- Families with children: the water mat, paddleboards and kayaks at a shallow sandbar, and snorkeling on a calm day.
- Thrill-seekers: a jet ski or a jet car between the sandbar and the skyline, or a wakeboarding session.
- Certified divers: a reef or wreck dive with a dive operator, and snorkeling for the non-divers.
- A party: toys at the sandbar and a jet ski for turns, with food and drinks from Miami yacht services.
The rules on the water
Florida law requires anyone born on or after 1 January 1988 to carry a Boating Safety Education ID card, or a temporary certificate from a short test, to operate a vessel of 10 horsepower or more, and the operator checks it before the ride. Personal watercraft cannot run between sunset and sunrise in Florida, so jet ski time is planned in daylight. Divers and snorkelers fly a divers-down flag and boats keep clear of it; towing a skier or rider needs a spotter aboard besides the driver. Life jackets are worn on every jet ski, jet car and towed ride.
The captain’s call
Swimming and every toy are at the captain’s call on the day: wind, current, boat traffic, lightning and water quality decide where and whether guests go in. Nobody swims while the engines are running, and anyone who has been drinking heavily stays aboard. The reasons are set out on yacht safety protocols.
Booking a water sport
Choose the boat first, then add the activity at checkout or by message. Activities with an operator need about a day’s notice and the names and ages of the riders; toys on the boat are confirmed with the boat. Where a price is in the catalogue it is shown on the card; other activities are quoted for your group.
